Toei Animation announced a new anime canon called Dragon Ball Daima at a panel at New York Comic Con.
There have been speculations that a new anime featuring Son Goku and his allies is in the works. But the question was whether it would continue the events of the manga and recent movies or go in a different direction like Toei did with its spinoff anime. At NYCC, the answer was revealed in the form of the Dragon Ball Daimo. The anime will act as a bridge between the end of Dragon Ball Z before its epilogue and the events of Dragon Ball Super. This is a very significant place to bridge for several reasons.
Dragon Ball Returns in New Canon Anime Form
First, the anime was originally followed up by another series in Dragon Ball GT, which was eventually reworked and replaced with movies that would act as a kind of prologue to Dragon Ball Super. When the new anime debuted a few years ago, it recreated the movies in a TV format and expanded on them in various ways. So there is now a gap between the end of the “Buu Saga” and the arrival of Lord Beerus, which kicked off the new anime. But that’s not the only revelation made at the NYCC panel.
A significant difference between Dragon Ball Daimo and the other series is that based on the panel screenshots, Goku ages again and has to embark on a new journey to regain his adult form. Other screenshots indicate that it won’t just be Goku who “shrinks”, but Vegeta and Supreme Kai as well. Few details are known beyond what was shown at the panel, but the animation looks very similar in style to the previous anime, and the series is expected to arrive next year.
